Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have a budding art critic on their hands.
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Gray Man star opened up about taking his daughters, seven-year-old Esmeralda Amada and six-year-old Amada Lee, to the Louvre. According to the girl-dad, Amada was not impressed.
“My youngest has a real power move,” Gosling told Fallon, per People. “We got to work in France, so we went to the Louvre. We saw Winged Victory, we saw Venus de Milo.” Amada had a particularly hilarious reaction while taking in the museum's most famous painting. “We were standing in front of the Mona Lisa and she goes, ‘This museum,’” Gosling recalled while doing an impression of his daughter making a thumbs-down gesture. “I said, ‘Why?’ She went, ‘Because it is not good.’”
Gosling said that his daughter would sometimes give paintings a double-thumbs-down behind her back, which he referred to as “the real power move.” He added, “The thumbs-down walkaway. It's like Roman Empire–level shade.”
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have been together since meeting on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011 but are known for keeping their personal life private. However, Gosling recently revealed that Mendes is a big fan of his latest role. “She’s been very supportive. She’s supporting my Kenergy,” he said on BBC’s The One Show, per PopSugar U.K. “She started a hashtag, #ThatsMyKen, which meant a lot to me.”
In fact, Mendes had a particularly visceral reaction to the first official photo of her partner as Ken on the set of the upcoming Barbie movie. “I saw the photo and the 14-year-old in me was like, ‘Ahhhhh,’” Mendes said in an interview with The Talk on June 27, before specifically referencing the Calvin Klein–inspired “Ken” underwear Gosling wore in the promotional image. “It's a funny photo and he's trying to be funny, so it worked on all levels. But when I saw it, he sent it to me from work and I said, ‘Can I please have that underwear? Please. I never ask for anything.’”
